#whyitworks--Neutral Drama

We all want a serene retreat at the end of a long day and soft, warm colors exude an inherent sense of calm. But keeping a neutral palette from turning into a snooze-fest can be tricky. So, how do you make it work?

Follow my yellow arrows for a closer look at this beautiful bedroom for everything you need for a little neutral drama.

1. The talented designers at Twelve Chairs, one of my favorite Boston furniture stores, used several shades of a single color. Starting with white, they added ivory and cream. Bringing in beige, they dialed up the "intensity” with tan and a few deeper browns.

2. From rough brick to pom-pom pillows, a raised quilt pattern and plush throw, every where you look there is a different texture that draws your eye and makes the room interesting.

3. The natural fiber pendant sticks with the color scheme but it’s spiky surface and rich tan color creates a little drama.

4. The art piece and the flowers bring in a few touches of bright color that creates a bit of contrast with the neutral shades. The soft colors feel even more soothing and the purples, reds, and blues add a little life.

This blog is dedicated to my sister, Angela, who's never found a neutral she couldn't turn into something fabulous.

And, if you're ready to give it a try, tell us all about it in the comments section.
